Five years ago with the release of OmniFocus 3, I wanted to write a post with the title of this one…but I couldn’t. At that point, while totally powerful and absolutely amazing, the application was simply not something where a customer with say, the iPhone version only, could it pick up and have every feature available to them.
Well, now that all changes.
This new version has had so much care, time, thought, feedback, and love devoted to it that it has had a chance to become simply put: the best version of OmniFocus ever.
I have been a customer since OmniFocus version 1 and have always appreciated what the application allowed me to tackle. Custom perspectives, the ability to defer tasks out into the future so that your lists don’t become overwhelming, Flags to denote importance, etc. It was always useful so that you could see only the tasks that were important to you at any given moment. With OmniFocus 4, that’s no longer true of just the Mac version. Now you have the power of OmniFocus truly in your hands at all times.
For example, one of my favorite little touches is the Apple Watch application. I enjoy being able to quickly view my Errands list while out and about without having to reach for my phone.
Through the use of custom perspectives, I have given my watch just the information that I might need while I am out running errands or driving. I might want to make some phone calls and I can quickly check the information while at a stop. This is what OmniFocus has always been about. The ability to make you more productive, regardless of where you are.
I’m also seeing that the inimitable Tim Stringer has some new resources over at Learn OmniFocus, which I advise checking out.
My hats off to Ken Case and the entire team at The Omni Group. They’ve done a phenomenal job with this release and I’m happy to continue to be an OmniFocus subscriber!
